Writing Prompts and Attention to Storyline

She Does Not

The most successful writing sessions aren’t necessarily the ones you spend writing. Starting the week off with a successful writing session usually outlines the greater ideas that are going to follow as the week progresses, at least in my experience. Today, I have not written an entire chapter, nor have I spent any time editing. However, I can feel the ideas well up inside me, ready to burst. I can feel my writer’s block deteriorate, and that to me is just the beginning.

I’ve been working hand in hand cowriting a story with a dear friend of mine, and having someone else around, sharing ideas can really help when the ideas seem to have stopped flowing. That innate ability to create has seemingly been running dry as of late, so much so that even when I do spend time writing, I do not feel as satisfied. Currently. I have the will to sit here and write twenty pages, create something that rivals my very own ability, my very own writing style. That is how you know that your writing style has begun to evolve. She and I began writing this story a year ago, now, as we pick it back up and began the rewriting process, so much about the storyline has changed. So much about our writing styles have changed.

Do you have a novel hauled up in the back of your computer, written down in a journal somewhere collecting dust? I have an entire folder that I dedicated to ideas that fell through, and it is now that I realize how useful those ideas can be. Take a moment, print some things out, grab a pen, and have a read. You’d be surprised at what you can find lurking within your own words. This is your creation, these ideas were once the center of your thought process. Give it another go, there’s so much more to the story, and that is up to you.

I would like to repost your work on my Writing blog, but your reblog button does not seem to be working. Could you check on that?
